Haiti’s Prime Minister Gary Conille has resigned after just four months in office, plunging the country into fresh political turmoil.

Conille’s decision to step down follows a row with President Michel Martelly over earthquake reconstruction efforts.

Tensions between the pair erupted recently after Conille announced plans to audit 250 million euros in contracts awarded by his predecessor.

Martelly, who took office in May 2011, had his first two nominees for the post rejected during a five month delay, impending his ability to assemble a government to move ahead with the island’s reconstruction.

Two years after the devastating eartquake, more than half a million people are still living in tent camps in the capital, Port-au-Prince.
